My work is concerned with abstractions of structures, from geometric frameworks as found in the built environment to more amorphous organic forms from the natural world. Through a mixture of painting and printmaking I explore the fragmentation and erosion of these structures in a fluctuating movement between order and chaos, formation and deformation, connections and fissures.

Led by an interest in chance and process, I experiment with layers and texture, scraping and dripping. I use tools such as rollers, spreaders and wide brushes which reduce control. Stencils are a major part of the process; either photo stencils for screen printing, offcuts of paper stencils used to create new unintended forms, or found objects such as wire mesh or frayed fabric to be used with spray paint. I paint on top of failed paintings that I partially obscure with varying layers of paint so that random traces of the original show through. Equally I use silkscreen over previous paintings to create works that question the distinction between print and painting.
